Delightful Halal Dining at FandoQ

FandoQ NY Persian Mediterranean restaurant, Westbury

Halal is not just a label. It is a commitment — to sourcing, to preparation, and to the belief that what you eat matters as much as how it tastes. At FandoQ NY in Westbury, halal is foundational to everything we do, from the moment ingredients arrive at our kitchen to the moment your plate reaches the table.

What Does Halal Mean?

The Arabic word halal means “permissible.” In the context of food, it refers to dietary standards defined by Islamic law: animals must be humanely raised, slaughtered by a Muslim who recites a blessing, and free of forbidden substances including pork and alcohol. Blood must be fully drained. The process emphasises cleanliness, intention, and respect for the animal.

What halal is not: a lesser standard, a marketing term, or something that affects flavour. In practice, halal meat is handled with more care and ceremony than most conventional meat. Many non-Muslim diners who try halal food for the first time notice a difference — cleaner flavour, better texture — before they even know what they are eating.

FandoQ’s Halal Commitment

Every piece of meat served at FandoQ is halal-certified. Our chicken, beef, and lamb come from suppliers who meet strict halal requirements, and we do not mix halal and non-halal items anywhere in our kitchen. This is not a compromise we make situationally — it is the foundation our menu is built on.

For diners who observe halal dietary requirements, FandoQ offers something increasingly rare in Nassau County: a full-service restaurant where you can order anything on the menu without reservation. No workarounds, no “ask about the chicken.” Every dish, every time.

Our Halal Menu — What to Order

FandoQ’s halal menu spans the full range of Persian Mediterranean cuisine:

Kebabs

Our kebab menu is the heart of the restaurant. Kubideh (seasoned ground beef on flat skewers), Barg (saffron-marinated beef tenderloin), Joojeh (saffron chicken), and Shrimp Kebab are all prepared fresh daily with halal-certified meat. The marinade is simple: saffron, lemon, onion, salt. No fillers, no shortcuts.

Stews (Khoresh)

Persian stews are slow-cooked for hours, which means the quality of the meat matters enormously. Ghormeh Sabzi — the herb stew with lamb and dried limes — is a dish that rewards good halal lamb above all else. Fesenjan, the pomegranate walnut stew, uses chicken that has been properly sourced and handled. You can taste the difference.

Seafood

Seafood is inherently halal (with the exception of shellfish in some interpretations — our shrimp kebab is available and popular, and our Grilled Whole Bronzino is entirely uncontroversial). Our seafood dishes offer an excellent option for diners who prefer to avoid red meat entirely.

Vegetarian Options

Persian cuisine has a deep vegetarian tradition. Our Kashk-e Bademjan (roasted eggplant dip), Mast-o-Khiar (yogurt and cucumber), stuffed grape leaves, and vegetable kebab are all halal and contain no meat.

Halal Dining on Long Island

Finding a full-service halal restaurant in Nassau County that offers genuine cuisine — not fast food, not a compromise — has historically been difficult. FandoQ was built specifically to address that gap. We serve the Long Island Muslim community, the broader Persian diaspora, and anyone who cares about where their food comes from and how it was prepared.
